AIT joins EPA's SmartWaySM Transport Partnership
Drastically decreasing its carbon footprint and being recognized among other eco-friendly industry players, AIT Worldwide Logistics has joined the SmartWaySM Transport Partnership, a voluntary program designed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to improve the environmental performance of freight delivery systems in the United States.
As a leading competitor in the transportation and logistics industry, AIT has committed itself to establishing incentives for fuel efficiency improvements and greenhouse gas emissions reductions in order to support the EPA's mission to eliminate 33 to 66 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions and up to 200,000 tons of nitrogen oxide per year by 2012.
"AIT Worldwide Logistics is proud to align with SmartWay in taking action to preserve the environment and support the freight forwarding industry's need to reduce harmful emissions," said Ralph Obenauf, Compliance Coordinator for AIT Worldwide Logistics.
Using a FLEET Performance Model to measure the company's current environmental performance and assess the percentage of AIT's annual freight currently being moved by SmartWay Transport partners, the EPA generated a score to determine whether or not AIT qualified for eligibility in the program.
Achieving the top SmartWay score of 1.25, AIT has officially been declared a SmartWay Transport partner.
"SmartWay has given us the proper resources, guidance and partnerships to continue our role in greening the operations of our business and supporting those within our industry who embrace similar initiatives," said Obenauf.
AIT Worldwide Logistics and the environment
As introduced in the September issue of the eNewsletter, AIT Worldwide Logistics recognized the need to turn over a new leaf and become a more environmentally friendly organization by implementing a going green program on June 16, 2008. Reducing energy, recycling and taking a fuel-efficient stance in reducing our carbon footprint has become our company's green initiative.
Under the leadership of Ralph Obenauf, Compliance Coordinator, AIT will continue to review its environmental commitment and implement procedures to enhance business with our partners and customers across the globe.
It's our mission to promote the environment with an eco-conscious organization that protects the environment and creates healthier employee surroundings.
