C-TPAT is a joint initiative between government and business designed to
protect the security of cargo entering the United States. C-TPAT requires
importers to take steps to assess, develop, and communicate new practices that
ensure tighter safety measures of cargo and enhanced security throughout the
entire supply chain. In return, their goods and conveyances receive expedited
processing into the United States.
AIT has been a fully certified C-TPAT compliance member since 2003, under the
category of Air Freight Consolidators, Ocean Transportation Intermediaries and
Non-Vessel Operating Common Carriers. In this category, AIT supports the
program’s vision that in order to improve, protect, and strengthen the cargo
supply chain, involvement from all members of the trading community is
required.
